I began experimenting with different folds to discover what kind
of design will be visually appealing.
Beginning process
The first folds making process
From left to right
After making this fold, I have realized that it looks like the mountain logos such as the Paramount Television logo and the Toblerone logo.
The final 50 folds
Firstly, out of all the 50 folds, I realized that these three folds had a significant amount of space to expand design features further, the
geometric shapes form a clear sharpness allowing them to look tidy, they have a good balance of pattern, symmetry as well as shape.
As I was experimenting I realized that I was constantly folding in a geometrical way allowing my folds to be sharp and clean. These designs have
asymmetrical aspect. The first design has a aesthetic appeal due to the sharp folds making it look sharp and tidy. The second design's shape looks very
similar to a mountain which is used in many famous logos such as the Paramount Television logo, Adidas and the
Toblerone logo. Lastly, the square fold was the fold that used six whole folds to make.
Why are these the chosen ones?
Process of the final
Final fold
Six parallelogram paper folds were required to make this square I chose this paper fold because the angle of the photograph showcases the shades and the direction of the light source, making it more three-dimensional.The symmetrical parallelograms combined naturally to create a perfect square, making this paper fold more valuable than the other two. The reason that I chose is that it has more possibilities, the space for progression is significant and can be forged into numerous designs.
DES100 - CCC
Overall I really like how I was struggling at first but eventually became more comfortable at using rhino, I have learned a lot while making this keyring such as trim, hatch, split, move, join, scale, delete and how to use curve points for curving parts.. It was challenging at first but then became very easy. If I continued developing this project, Firstly I would do further designs on the border/outline of the keyring.

DES100 - Kings & Queens
DESIGN100 Brief - Design & 3D print a custom “chess piece” in the aesthetic of a film that has inspired you as a designer.
Being a highly sensitive person in visual art & design, The "Arcane" series directed by Pascal Charrue and Arnaud Delord produced a high-quality 3d animation tv shows masterpiece, one of the top 3d animated TV shows of 2021. Arcane drew my attention from the presentation, writing, characters to the unique art style, a mix of 2D and 3D. Just as Atelier Emily mentions in her blog post, "art nouveau trappings specifically for Zaun and art deco trappings for the architecture and design of Piltover." (ART NOUVEAU AND ART DECO IN ARCANE, para. 3) The structure of buildings in piltover was built with powerful stringent geometric shapes that have made it look visually symmetrical. Zoun is asymmetrical, completely the opposite contrast to piltover. Arcane was the first 3D animation that I have watched; it deeply inspired me through all the details and intentions they have put in.
To begin, I started researching on google and Pinterest for relative images to create a mood board, going through articles blogs that investigate Arcane's style and theme in depth. Next, I put the ideas and images in the moldboard; started to plan the layout. I came up with a few key aesthetics from Arcane: symmetrical, asymmetrical, stringent geometry shapes, technology, naturalistic, and artifice.
MOOD BOARD
DRAFT SKETCHES
I was deeply inspired by the Art Nouveau-style upper-city of Piltover and under-city of Zaun, designed in a neon-dystopian style. I decided to forge the 5th sketch design into my final design, which is inspired by this symmetrical window design from Arcane.
FINAL RENDERINGS
After completing the sketches, I wouldn't say I liked the 6th design on the top right corner as it was too wide to be made into chess; I like the final design the most as it is inspired by the art nouveau style window design used in Arcane. I have put in quite a lot of time on this project. However, it was entertaining to do the research and the project, as it allowed me to view Arcane from a different perspective. In the next project, I would like to explore Arcane In further detail.
DES100 - Reverse Engineering
Brief - Choose an everyday object and reverse engineer, it to produce a 3D model, render, and specification drawing.
Firstly to come up with ideas I started searching through pinterest and google looking for well designed gaming mouses, from looking at these designs I started to see patterns. I started off by creating a ellipsoid then edited it to look more like a mouse
MODELLING PROCESSS
I started by creating mouse parts separately with simple shapes, then curved and bent them to look like the shape I had in mind. After completing the base and mouse parts, I put them together; rendered them with different materials, which allowed me to test which materials were realistic and had good texture.
This project turned out better than I expected, I was struggling to use rhino but at the end of the project, my 3D modeling skills improved a lot. I enjoyed the experimenting process. I like the final rendering, there are still many aspects that could have been accomplished better if I was more comfortable with Rhino but for now, I am delighted with my results.
DES100 - Unwrap
Brief: Processing the 3d surface of a model into its 2d form and generating ten ideas with functions.
I started off by exploring different ideas of geometric shapes in rhino software and searching Pinterest for object designs such as lamps, tables, houses, hoverboards, etc. I decided to do a pen & phone holder, then built my sketched ideas in rhino and realized that some of these shapes are very hard to make into a physical model because of the curves, especially bent angles. Finally, I chose this 3D Geometric Shape as the final design. I settled with this one because it is easy to make, and the shapes are all unified; it gives me a neat and clean feeling.
IDEATION
FINAL MODEL
Skills learnt from previous projects and lessons were used to complete this project. Compared to the last project, the process of this project was quite interesting. Just like last time, the process has slowed down as I was struggling to make unique shapes that I had in mind earlier but through this process, I have learned many new skills.

Interview the client and discover the initial problem, post a reflection blog documenting the process, critical observations, insights, and learnings according to the client’s initial problem.
Client’s Initial problem:
My client's initial problem was as a beginner, she was unsure of how to use the gym equipment but hiring a personal trainer is quite expensive.
---Prefer not to hire personal trainers because they are too expensive.
---Don't know what to expect
---Often get bruises or get injured
---Don't know what type of work out is right for desired body shape
Empathy Conversations
I interviewed 3 people and gathered important information that helped me with my design process.
I like working out because working out has a positive impact on my body and mind as it makes me feel happier and more motivated for the day.
I usually work out in the morning as this is when I have free time and am not busy. As I prefer to do homework in the evening and I have class in the afternoons. Also it is a good start to the day.
Working out is important for me because I like to feel healthy mentally and physically and I like to keep fit and be the best version of myself I can be.
I usually walk to the gym because it is the easier transport as the gym is not that far away and it's a good warm up before I start.
My fitness goals would be to feel fit consistently, so to work out consistently to be able to feel fit consistently as this is when I personally feel the most comfortable and happy. Another goal is to be happy with how I look and feel with my body, no specific shape or weight but just to feel good in the skin that I am in.

Sophia Chan
Do you usually go to the gym? I have been to the gym before but not now
Do you ever work out? Yes, I have before
Why don't go to the gym anymore? the reason for not feeling the need to go to the gym is because I don't have a car, taking the bus to the gym takes too long, the reason that stops me from wanting to go to the gym is the amount of homework, going to the gym is too time-consuming The interview is over, thank you for your cooperation!
Yue Xuan Luo
Do you usually go to the gym? I have been to the gym before but now I barely do, because it costs quite a lot.
Do you ever work out? I used to do workouts when I was still studying at university; now I don’t really have the time to do so, going to the gym is very time-consuming Id rather do something else.
When do you feel the need to exercise? Under normal circumstances, as long as the weather is good I suppose I can work out; as I said I prefer doing something else in my free time.
How long do you work out if you decide to do so? The duration of the exercise is half an hour to an hour a day.
Was your fitness goal primarily to lose weight or build muscle? Umm… I prefer to lose weight.
What is the most frequently used fitness equipment you use? I usually use a spinning bike or a smith machine.
Did you notice any inconvenience when going to the gym for the first time? Every gym should be okay, there is nothing inconvenient.
Did you hire a trainer when you were working out? No
What are the reasons for not hiring a coach? It is quite expensive.
Have you ever experienced a strain or sprain while exercising? No, because I normally am very careful and don't go over my limits.
As a beginner what will you do if you did not know how to use the machines? id probably ask other people, because there are other people in the gym.
Do you think a tutorial website or tutorial technology device will solve this problem? Well...mostly this may depend on how well the design is.
Emily Kim
Do you usually go to the gym? No
Do you ever work out? Not really
Why do you prefer not to go to the gym? It's not like I do not like being active. I don't really have the motivation and time for it. Even if I did, I think it would be a bit of a waste of money. Also, I am socially awkward. The interview is over, thank you for your cooperation!

10 Reasons You're Afraid to Hire a Personal Trainer
The main reason is because it is too expensive to hire a personal trainer.
Reference:
10 Reasons You're Afraid to Hire a Personal TrainerThe right clothes to wear to the gymThe reasons why hiring personal gym trainer is worth the moneyObservation
1.) I noticed that people prefer not to find personal trainers because of the costs.
2.) Don't know what type of workout is right for desired body shape.
3.) Going to the gym seems to be time-consuming but also one of the only ways to improve health.
4.) Introverts may be afraid to go to the gym because they are afraid of other people's opinion.
5.) I realized that many introverts don't go to the gym, Gyms can be an introvert's definition of hell on earth.
6.) Most people who have the time to go to the gym are really well organised, they may be very busy but always seem to do better on scheduling than others who don't go to the gym.
7.) Most people who to the gym seem to have good time management and habit.
8.) Many people don't go to the gym because they don't know what to expect.
9.) People who go to the gym does not use their phone that much compared to the people who don't.
10.) Often get bruises or get injured due to not knowing how to safely use the equipment.
Insights
1.) Some people don't work out at the gym just for losing weight or to build muscle, they actually like doing workouts it is the same as a hobby for them.
2.) For different body shapes, there are different workout routines and diet plans.
3.) They wear breathable teeshirts, supportive undergarments, flexible bottoms, gym footwear and always carry a towel to the gym.
4.) Gym trainers will not let people do what they are not ready for, the amount and number of workouts will vary for people.
How can I solve this?
Tutorial website or a tutorial technology device that starts off with a survey to collect information about what the body type the client has and what body type they want to build. After gathering the information it then generates a workout plan & all the information on how to safely use the gym equipment; also includes a diet plan matched for every individual client's body type.
